STRONGHOLD CLIMBING GYM, ECHO PARK

This project transformed a former grocery store into a modern indoor climbing gym serving the Echo Park community. Through a thoughtful adaptive reuse and tenant improvement, the existing commercial shell was reimagined as a vibrant, family-friendly recreational destination.

The renovation introduced new locker rooms, restrooms, showers, office space, and comprehensive ADA accessibility upgrades, ensuring full compliance with current building and life-safety codes. Working within a more compact footprint than typical climbing facilities, the design prioritized efficient space planning, balancing climbing functions, support spaces, and circulation while maintaining a high-quality user experience.

The result is a high-energy indoor climbing gym that brings new life to a repurposed commercial building, demonstrating how adaptive reuse architecture can support community-focused recreation in an urban neighborhood.
